EMN Vibes
Vibes Videos List | Vibes Song List
EMN Vibes is a channel that works differently from the rest, so a dedicated programming guide isn't exactly possible. Audio and video content run asynchronously, though this allows the two sources to work together and combine into a single experience. Music that plays on this channel is carefully-curated video game music intended to bring back good memories, allow for relaxation and happiness, and provide pleasant background noise and talking points for those who wish to partake in discussion. It's an endless radio station of lo-fi music and great gaming hits from consoles all across the spectrum. Video content, however, can be broadly separated into a few categories:
Longplays
Uninterrupted playthroughs of video games from start to finish. Now, some on the channel are not the full titles as they can be 20-30 hours long or even more, but the upper limit is about ten hours. This was part of what made us start this channel in the first place - Mandy remembered a channel that they saw that had sped-up footage of videogames playing under a soundtrack of gaming music and I was determined to make this a reality. I'm really happy with the selection we have, as our latest system is a single Game Boy Advance game but we mostly use sprite-based games or comfortable N64 games as the basis of what to add. Personally, I love Kirby 64 and Earthbound as they both have such comforting aesthetics and a leisurely pace that make for interesting yet not overstimulating viewing.
Old School Anime
Old school analogue anime is really interesting on this channel as it provides bright colors and the soft glow of lighting effects that distort pleasantly especially on a CRT. It started with the addition of Nazca, also known as "that anime that was on Malcom In The Middle", and expanded to include Ys, Yu-Gi-Oh Season 0, Serial Experiments Lain, Vampire Hunter D, and several other shows and movies that aren't always great for normal viewing but make for fascinating visuals and things to talk about while the music is playing.
Training Videos
Corporate training videos are goldmines of unusual visuals, skits, dance segments, and corporate graphics meant to wow you. They're always so bizarre out of context and all of them have a strange comfort to them, especially the ones directly ripped from tapes. My personal favorites are the Nintendo Kiosk one, the DivX promotional videos, and a car sales video that starts with a very long skit featuring two people talking, presumably about how great cars are.
VHS Rips
We have lots of programming ripped from VHS tapes, such as a single episode of Xena. This includes classic ads, obscure B-movies, and marathons. One of the best ones is five hours of an anime marathon from the Sci-Fi channel in the late 90s, and another great one is an entire episode of the strange public access show that later gave rise to the infamous Gaming In The Clinton Years videos. The tape transfer quality is super interesting as a result and makes for a dreamlike quality when combined with the music.
