Video Chick, LC Gamer, says: Yes, Guys you better watch out! I mean I have been playing video games ever
since I could understand what the controllers did! (Age 5 I am now 14) Ever
since then I have been a major gamer! Everytime i'm at a guyfriends house and
I see he has a game system I always challenge them to a game....And guess who
always kicks butt! MUWA! Yep a GIRL! WOW! A GIRL CAN ACTUALLY PLAY! So you
just better watch out....Because i know there are more girls getting into it!
Everytime I have a slumber party we are playing Zelda....Or Raceing games all
night long! *Sorry if I sound rude* Luv yeah lots!
Wendy Zhou Explains: Dear Video Gamer X, Thank you so much for this section! A lot of my classmates think that just because I'm a girl, I can't play video games as good as everyone else. Every boy who has Zelda (except my cousin) says that I'll never beat it so I shouldn't even buy it. But I went ahead and bought it anyways. So did my best friend, who never even played video games before except with me. There is some things I'm not as good at at video games as some boys, such as I might get nervous at times, but I can figure out tricks way easier. And I find easier ways to defeat some enemies because I'm afraid sometimes. Such as when I figured out that just by pulling down your shield, baby Dodongos kill themselves. And my friend figured out that you can kill the Huge Moblin with four Bombchus. Or that you can get the compass in Jabu-Jabu by only throwing two to five deku nuts. I am not the best Video Gamer, but I think I am doing all right. I can probably name plenty of boys worse than me. Thank you for the Girls section.
Rachel Says: Hi. My name is Rachel and I play video games. My favorite game is Legend of Zelda. I've E mailed you before about Zelda tricks I have found but now I'm E mailing about your topic "Girls and Video Games". When you said "Kick the boys off their turf" I remembered the time I beat all four Gerudo guards for my three boy cousins because they couldn't do it. They were ashamed that a girl played Zelda 64 better than them.
KDP87 Remarks: i first learned about videogames when my sister had a super nitendo which was
a long time ago. i was not good at all. but when n64 got out i got better. i
have final fantasyVIII. boys and girls i think make good friends . boys out
number girls in my neighberhood. there all boys are wimps and cowards.one boy
and his brother are genuises.but the littler one which is my friend mostly
gets all the tips from his brother who finished zelda64 in one week without a
source of guide.when i get stuck on final fantasyVII i ask my friend for
help.i know 8 other girls who play video games.
most of those could probably beat a guy up.
Chibi Musa Comments: Hi! I'm a long time fan of your site, The Odyssey of Hyrule and think it's about the best thing besides Zelda games themselves. The addition of your Zelda Girl section made it even better. Even though there are probably more guy gamers in the world, we gals go for quality, not quantity! I remember that it was me, and not my brother who got Zelda for Christmas (My brother got Pokemon, no surprise there!). And the day after Christmas I was the one who beat Queen Ghoma on my first try after my brother and two male cousins lost repeatedly. I hope that as time passes more and more girl gamers will show up to and tell the guys to get off their turf for once! (no offense Video Gamer X)
Carla Proclaims: I think girls should show those men out there that they're the masters at
vidoe games because listen up boys my name is Carla and I'm a girl and I have
the game Zelda and I beat the game in two weeks. So how to you like that boys
eh?!
Holly Says: At the risk of sounding boastful, I have a natural talent for video games. I can remember the first time I picked up a N64 Controller,
playing the game Mario Karts, which I had never played before. I went versus against a so called "Best in the World Driver" male,
and I beat him, not once, but 5 out of 5 times, after which he threw down the controller and stormed out of the room. You shoulda
seen the look on his face! This is a TRUE story! I am 14 and have a 16 year old brother, who will no longer play against me in any
game, because he has NEVER WON ONCE! I rule supreme, even though I am a girl. I have finshed Zelda a number of times, and
have enjoyed seeing Gannon go down every time. So I guess it proves that you don't have to be male to be an expert, there isn't
some rule which says males must win! And vice versa. All this proves is that to be the best you have to have talent of practice alot.
That's all there is to it!
Ashley Says: Hey Video Gamer X. Thanx so much for giving us girls the chance to show our
video gaming skills. I'm a big fan of RPG's myself so Zelda64 was one of the
best games I've played, other than the Final Fantasy series of course. I've
been playing video games from Mario Brothers to FF8. I've always been able to
beat my friends when we play 4 player games like Goldeneye. C'mon guys, girl
can be video game freaks too! Thanx again. :)
Shayna Silva Let's Everyone Know: I'm a girl that likes video games. Surprising? Not anymore. And I'm good at
it too. Even more surprising? Nope. I beat Zelda after playing it for TWO
WEEKS. COUNT 'EM TWO WEEKS. And I don't care if any guy thinks I'm bragging,
all girls have the right to. Every guy I know that has ever played a video
game has thrown it in my face that guys are better than girls and that girls
will never be good. Well back at you boys!!! My older brother was ahead of me after the
first week, but after that I was way ahead of him and I beat the game before
he did. And you know what? He STILL hasn't beaten it and we got the game
when it first came out. Thanks for putting this section up, Video Gamer X,
and letting us girls speak our minds.
Jenna McAdam Expresses: Jenna McAdam a.k.a ZeldaTeen - Yes! This is great. Your a genuis for this!
I'm a Nintendo girl. I play everything. I have been playing since nintendo
was in my house. I played from the first Zelda to Duck Hunt, and Mimo:
Adventures in DreamLand. I played everything. My guy friends at school ask me
stuff about games. I was a genuis when it came to stuff on the Super
Nintendo. And now N64 my brother and cousins are to afraid of some games and
ask me to play them and I beat them. When it comes to battles I kick butt.
Just to show guys out there that there are girls that can fly through games
like you, and this girl is one of them. I use to go with my friend down to
his house and play tons of games. If I was doing something and he couldn't do
something I went in to help him, and he's a really good nintendo player. But
just goes to show ya that this girl knows what she's doing, never backs down
from a challenge and just wants to have fun!
Nancy Sparks Says: Hey What's up? All of they guys that I know at my school and in my
neighborhood think that they can kick any girl's butt @ video games. One
of my friends thought that he could kick my butt @ zelda one time (this
was when I first got the game,) and boy did I surprise him! I was young
Link on my game, and he was the adult Link, and I got him through the
Gerudo Valley. It's just like, I can figure out what to do in a video
game and get through it in a snap (I beat Banjo-Kazooie in 10:29.) But
my point is, I mean men have WAY to big of an ego ( no offense Video
Gamer-X) when it comes to girls & video games! So HA !,all of the guys
out there that think that they can kick butt against a girl @ video
games, 'cause we can suprise you, BIG TIME!
Tayonie Points Out: My most favorite game was Super Mario III for the original NES. I've played
a lot of video games and the first date I ever had was spent playing Mario64.
It's a real icebreaker, because guys think they'll have to take a girl to
something stupid like a sappy romance movie, or an opera. You tell 'em about
your love for video games and that you'd love to try this game or that
game(which they just happen to have, because you asked one of their freinds)
and they aren't so nervous about asking you out.
Crystal Makes Known: My opinion is that us girls just as much fun as the boys do! I have beaten Zelda: Ocarina of Time( best game ever made) and almost all of the boys I talk to at school haven't beat it but I have! We can play just as good as they can, if not better! Boys like to brag about a game they've won( but I aint talkin about all boys, some) and it really gets annoying. I'll brag for awhile but I don't make fun of nobody unless they start then you gotta fight back right? Anyway, Great site! Thanks for the page and sorry if I have sounded rude but, I was trying to get my point across. Thanks again.
Ranae Declares: Hello! My name is Ranae, and here's one i bet you haven't heard before! Altho I have loved video games for many years, I will be the first to admit that I'm not all that great at them. I play them just for the sheer fun of it. I have three brothers, and they all have beat every single game we have had before I ever did. But do I care? No, not really. Those of us that play just because, I want to say we kick some a$$ too, if just for the reason we don't yell and scream at the tv/monitor, like whatever mistake happened was ITS fault. We that suck have our own rally cry too! "PLEASE DON'T LET ME DIE!!!!" And right after, "Damn, I died again." But we keep our chin up and play and play, even if it takes 2 months to beat a game that should have taken a week. And gosh darn it, we are proud that we finally beat it! So, to all female gamers out there that suck and are proud of it, give yourself a hand! We deserve it! (Thank you, and remember to eat your veggies!)
ShadowSheik Adds: Like I say... Girls are better Artists than boys (Cause look at Silvestris), Girls are better Story makers, Girls are better Solders, Girls have better Aim, And Last but not Least Girls are better Gamers .... (Don't take that Wrong).
Visit ShadowSheik's site, "Sheik's Hide Out 2" at http://www.maxpages.com/sheikshideout2/
SisterSaria@aol.com Says: Hey peoples this addition is awesome. Now all we need is a bunch of stuff for
only us! The best thing about my visit here is that I can share with a lot of
people that I am the brains of Zelda and my brother is Braves! what that
means is I can solve the hardest mindbending riddles and puzzles in the game
easy and my brother can't. And my brother can Fight any of the enemies
without or with little fear of them (I get kind of nervous at battling the
enemies alone I don't know why!) Glad I could share this -- again, THANKS FOR
THE ADDITIONAL SITE! THE MUSIC IS COOL!
Kim Mentions: I am 34/F and have 2 daughters and 3 step children. My kids can't believe that I like to play Zelda. I made my husband buy Nintendo 64 for Christmas not just for the kids but for me. Keep on Gaming in 2000.
Jillibean Adds: Hello there. I am a girl. I like Zelda. I'm always getting discoraged by boys in my grade, saying that I'm probably no good at Video Games. But then again, there are then kids like Logan and Pride and Jason, boys actually willing to challenge me. I go to Pride and Jason's house every once in a while, because mine and Pride's parents are best friends. Since I was little I have been doing this, pretty much ignoring Pride's
sister, Ashtyn, playin with dolls. I guess that's why I liked video games in the first place, me always just playing with boys.
My sister would play with Ashtyn and I'd play with Pride and sometimes, I remember we'd act out scences from the Nintendo. Though I hated it, I would always be Peach,, he'd be Mario. I didn't hate it because I would be Peach, not like I wanted to be Mario or anything, it's just that she was the only girl, and she was made out to be so helpless. That's why I like Zelda. It's like that cool girl that had Zelda visions to help her more identify with Zelda because then Zelda wasn't just a weak damsel in distress, she was strong. And, Zelda isn't weak, or helpless. She pretty much devised the whole plan in The Orcarina of Time, Link just went through the dungeons. The girl was Sheik. I liked that. I also liked her having the Triforce of Wisdom.
Elf Girl Puts In:Hey Video Gamer X! Like my other girlfriends I'd like to thank you for letting us post these notes and show our stuff. I remember whin my cuz was playing Zelda I was watching him. he was cussing because he was stuck in Lord Jabu Jabu ...(Hmm, how competent....). I was the ingenious one who suggested "why Chris, why don't you set down the wooden box on the switch?" after about half an hour he did and, voila.
Now I've beaten it many times, and shall continue to play it 4ever! Girls can do what guys can just as easily. But, now now, gals, let's not get cocky......let's just leave it at.....girls and guys are equal, K? L8er
Catherine Says Firmly: Wait a second...who said girls like 'emotional and romantic love stories' in their video games? I just got Zelda:Ocarina of Time, and personally, I'm glad Link doesnt hook up with Zelda or Malon (um..i guess he kinda owes it to Ruto...). Anyway, the reason I like video games is because they give you a chance to control a character in a situation that has adventure and problem solving and takes skill (even if you only use your hands). The first game I ever got was Goldeneye007, and i could kick anyones butt in it. Now, my new things Zelda. I had to borrow my friends bro's players guide, though; that game would take forever without it!
Li Lets us in On: I don't want to gross out all the guys, because I am an old MOM. But this is a great game. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence will love it. It is the most fun I have had since I read the "Lord of the Rings" in college. My teenage son did help me on 2 parts (I will tell you which ones if you ask) but once I realized the rules & moves, I did everything else myself. I am now just doing the Gerudo training ground to get the ice arrows because I did everything else. I loved MYST but this is the greatest game ever!!!!!!
Zelda of Hyrule Says: I am female, and I LOVE video games. I laugh out loud when I watch my
boyfriends play Zelda, and it takes literally HOURS for them to beat
Ganondorf! I just say, "Here! Let me show you how to play some Zelda!"
while snatching the controller. Then, I beat that sucker in 60 seconds
flat. When I look at the guys' death rates, I see three-digit numbers!!! I
have 0 deaths, and 0 falls! HAHAHA!!! And the Barbie game cartridge says,
"GAMES FOR GIRLS!" S**** whoever said that! REAL GIRLS PLAY REAL VIDEO
GAMES!!! WE HAVE JUST AS MUCH ABILITY AS GUYS DO, AND PERHAPS MORE!!!
Alice Fisher Says: Watch out. You don't know who you're messing with. I happen to be a Game Master! Well, sort of. I defeated the bosses in Zelda 64. And I beat the game Fox 64[when I was 7!]. I also beat my brother in a Pokemon match. It was totally pathetic! His Charizard was level 100 and I beat him with my level 67 Blastoise. It's true! Ask A.J[my brother] about it and he'll say that I won! So that's why I call myself a Game Master.
ZeldaTeen Adds: Another thing to mention. You guys who play Zelda, didn't think of much of Link. But to some of us girls we felt heartwarmed everytime we saw him as Adult Link. He was everthing a girl could ask for a guy so we always show courage and play. But anyway, there was one time I was playing at school and this guy said that girls couldn't play anything when it came to nintendo so I stood up and challenged him to go at it with me on any game he chose, he thought he was an expert at Smash Brothers but that wasn't the case when I got 19 TKO's on him, and I was standing with Link in the first place spot. Since then no guy who I sit by says a girl can't play nintendo. But anyway honestly, girls have a great skill for a lot of things. Guys have that talent too. I'm not sticking up for the guys or anything but what about Yachiyo, awesome drawings. But anyway the girls have the art with Silvestris, writing, Lady Juliet, and so on and so forth.
Kel Brings Forth: Thanks so much for putting up this section! When the guys in my neighborhood were talking about Zelda at school, they really had no clue what they were doing! They thought Zelda was the one that was running around in a green tunic! Well, I showed them all the glitches in the game. (from your site of course) Well I can't thank you enough. I got tons of codes and glitches from your site, not to mention a new boyfriend! Thanks again!
Cheyenne 86 Explains: Hey y'all
I wanted to say something about the girls & videogames stuff. First of all, I'd like 2 say that girls can kick ass on videogames!! Since I have only one brother who is 3 years older than I am I have always
been like involved in the whole video game thing. I live in the Netherlands now but when I was almost 4 I moved to the US for 3 years and my bro got some friends who were like really doing everything with videogames (Nintendo and gameboy) so after a while my bro got one too and he was playing all of
these weird kind of games you know, one guy shoots another with a gun, yaay, I win! I didn't really find that very interesting. But then he got a gameboy and there were some other, more fun games on there and I started playing that and then finally my bro got a Sega Game Gear and I bought his gameboy with 12 games from him for like 60 dollars. I always took my gameboy with me when we were on vacation etc. And I really played a lot of gameboy until about a year or two ago when my bro got a N64 and well I wasn't really good at it I mean I was playing GoldenEye and I was bumping into walls and everything. But then he got The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and I was like: wow. He was always like really private with his games he almost never let me play unless he needed someone he could defeat real easily. But then I started like begging him to let me play Zelda too and then finally he agreed and there I started my quest with little Link and I loved it! Everything was made so clear and easy that I could play it without any problem at all in no time. My bro was really psyched that I would finish the game sooner than he did but that never happened. I mean, I did finish the game but not before he did. I was so thrilled that a game could be so extensive and I kind of got addicted to it because you find yourself in a complete different world when you play it. You're the hero. You can do anything. My parents went mad because I was sitting behind the Nintendo so often. But then finally I finished the game (my parents were relieved) but I wasn't finished yet - I still needed 40 Skulltula's and 61/2 heartpieces and stuff and I mean I have been playing this for like 3/4 year and I'm still not done. It is such a great game and I can't wait for Zelda Gaiden to be released. Zelda also helped me to get better in Nintendo itself - I sometimes even beat my bro and I love those moments of victory. My friends all think I'm crazy, but oh well. I don't care. I have Zelda.
A Zelda Lover Praises: Hi Video gamer X,
I have sat back and spent hours reading your site, and to tell you what i've enjoyed every minute of it.I'm a really a hard core video game player and frankly a lot of people don't give where credit is due.I'm picked up my first controller when i was four years old.Playing video games still is one of my favorite things to do.Zelda to me is one of the best games ever made it's not a shooter and it's not a racer,It's in a class of it's own.I apreiciate all the effort you put into this site and i will be one of your reader's to the very last. thank you for everything.
Linka64 Recounts: I remember when I was about 4, my dad said I could have a nintendo when I turned 5...I was patient (or tried to be) and when I finally got it, I was going crazy, challenging everyone I could! Well, right now, I'll turn 13 later in the year, and I will be buying more games than ever! (Especially for my birthday). I have been playing the playstation, the Nintendo 64 (the most) and the super Nintendo. I have been beating my friend A LOT, and believe me, he is really surprised.. I also have a few computer games and other ones, like the gameboy. Zelda still is one of my favorites, and probably ALL of you know why...:)
ZeldaElf Says: Ok, I know that being a girl gamer isn't much anymore but would you beleive that when I got My N64 this year for christmas with Zelda included that my dad and I fought over it? We did for hours. My Dad and I have been playing Zelda since 1994, we startd by renting Link To the past. I was hooked. Later we moved and we were totally crushed that our rental Store didn't have Zelda, LTTP.But we survived on*yuck* Mario for a while. Then one day when we were at Zeller's in the games section while my mom was getting her film done (yawn) we found it! We obiously bought but didn't beatit.(we still haven't!!) I got Zelda TOoT for Christmas and am in the Water Temple. All my friends at school think I'm an idiot for liking Zelda but It gets me guys;) But even if it didn't I'd play it. All my Guy-friends have beaten Zelda at least once compared to my never and help me out alot but i could do it without them but its nice to be able to ask. And being a Gril i get a real kick outta the movies. the "Give me a big goron hug" thing was soooooo funny! And the "Link, Look at yourself" was kinda funny. but my point is(if you can think i have a point in all this pointlessness) that girls aren't different in gaming anymore. Sure compared to our little gossipy friends we are but I'm sure i could beat any of my guy-friends in goldeneye!
Zelda Baby Makes Known: I too am a girl who loves video games, I have almost every game system way back to ATARI ! ! (way back there huh?) I've played with, and beaten my older brother and his friends many many times, and I for one am glad that someone else noticed that girls like games too!!! So thanks for putting up this section on your site. ROCK ON!!
? Girl Gamer Wrote: Dear Video Gamer X,
I would like start out by saying I love your website, and the list of
glitches ownz. Now then, on to video games. As you could probably guess by now, I like video
games(why else would I be writing this?) Many boys I know say "Hey, you're a chick, and chicks don't have one bit of knowledge to know how to play!" Psh, yeah, right. Well, here's my little story on how I began to like Nintendo and other, uh, stuff.
Back when I was about eight and in the forth grade, my family chose to go
to Niagra Falls. Naturally, I had to go as well. In the hotel room was a SNES, but I had no idea what it did at the time. But I just sat down and decided to play it. I instantly loved it. Around 10:00 PM that night I started a game of Super Mario World. My mind is kind of hazy on what the other games were, but SMW stands out pretty clear. I did pretty well for a beginner, but I still sucked at it to. A month later, back at my home, it was
my birthday. I received three SNES games and the system to play it on.
Overjoyed, I was. For two years I was pretty happy with what I had. Then when
I turned ten, I got for my birthday an N64 and Super Mario 64. I can still
remember playing long into the night with many of my friends. We'd usuall
scream at each other for fifteen minutes on who got to play next, what world
they wanted to play, etc., and only fit in about a minute and thirty seconds
of game play. Ah, memories.....So, on to Zelda.
Alright, this won't take much to explain. See, only playing games for
three years isn't much time to learn about many video game genres. I had no
idea what The Legend of Zelda was. But I finally picked up a gaming magazine
and read about it. Hm, I guess I was skeptical. I was totally confused with
the story. But still, I bought the game the day after Thanksgiving. Success,
I was happy with it. The graphics were much better than the pictures I had
seen, and the story seemed to be easier to understand once you played it.
Needless to say, I still play it over and over again. Damn, can't get enough
of it 'cause it's so well done.
Well, there you go. My many years of playing Nintendo and enjoying it.
Many male friends I know now side with me when I say video games aren't just
for boys. I still play; not as much really, but I still do. Viva female video
game gamers!
? Girl Gamer #2 Comments: Well first I'd like to say that the best thing most girls like about the
Zelda series, is the hero. In Mario, Mario and Luigi weren't exactly good
looking, but Link is. That does a lot, because, even if it's just a video
game, you dream and think about a hero, or guy like that all the time! Link
is hot, and all girls on this section of your site, should say what they
think about his looks! I'm tired of the guys commenting on how good the
female characters look, and us girls, can't take a video game seriously
either.
Orin Tells: I've been playing video games since my hand-eye coordination was good enough to move Mario... which took a while, but that's beside the point... Being born in 1980 was a great thing in a way, it gave me room to expand into video games and toys with guns. *mad laughter* Of course, my parents refused to get me the boy toys... it was emotionally devistating to be surrounded by pink and Barbies. *shudder* But that fantastic Christmas right after the first Zelda was introduced, for some unexplained reason my parents got me that Nintendo that I still play every now and again, and that gorgeous gold game... That lead to me being a vicious video game junkie. Of course, I still am. That and I'm still reclaiming my youth through the collection of Transformers, Thundercats, He-Man and G.I. Joe. But I still love a little Zelda (any one of them!) and Killer Instinct to wind down...
Sharon Adds: You might find the name Sharon familar, as I'm from the message board. I've
been playing Video Games all of my life! I've even got a nice little
wreslting game(lets just say I'm REALLY tough)! I KICKED BUTT against the
Ivy twins(boys), and they're 16, while I'm 13! I had too tell my sister(18)
where to get the sword, and I had too help my borther in law(24, or 23)with
defeating Gannon! (that pork butt was easy! I ran out of power and
arrows, and started to roll under him, and hit is tail) Let me tell you how
much it slowed him down, he was already in the castle, and I was in the
water temple! HA! I caught right up too him and finished the game with 14
hearts! I don't expect you too post this up, but I have too do SOMETHING
with all this spare time!
Usagi Boasts: OK, My name is Usagi, and I beat all my guy friends at every single N64 game known to man! (Well, almost!) I've discovered many glitches in
many games, and in school I was nominated the most obsessed person with video games. (I'm in middle school) Out of the girls and guys.
(thats probably pitiul, but oh well) I could probably beat ALL OF YOU in any game in N64 (or snes). I got all high scores in every mini game in
TOoT (except for that damn bombchu bowling!) So, girls can be equally good at video games as men. So HA.
mumtazkhan Comments: It's true. Girls can do things bettert than boys can. Thanks for pointing it out. Most boys expect us girls to play the weakling act that says "I'm
so weak because I'm a girl so you have to protect me!" It's not true. Some people sterotype and say that boys can do things that girls can't. Like
they would say "It's a boy's sport." Girls can do any sport that boys can. They just won't realize it. I got my first Nintendo system when I was 5
from my grandmother even though my mom didn't like the idea. I was really good at it. Then I got Super Nintendo and then Nintendo 64 and I'm
pretty good. I've beaten boys and one of them thought that Jigglypuff was the strongest character in Super Smash Brothers. At first I thought it
was dumb, but since Jigglypuff is a girl, it doesn't mean she can't fight. I tried it and beat a boy while he was being DK! It was funny. I just ran
all over and kept on punching. I like the games where the girl is the heroine and not just the one that sits there and waits for her night in shining
armour. How pathetic. One day, this annoying boy in our class said that he's better than me just because he went up first to present since
everyone else was too scared (and he said that boys are braver). I bravely volunteered to go next and got a higher mark! While I was going
back to my desk, I whispered to him "Anything you boys can do, I can do better." He was angry and I didn't care. I proved a point. I'd just like
to conclude that we can do the amazing and I hope that someday, all the boys will realize it. Girl power!
Zelda Chick Says: Hello there! I am a videogame addict. When it was my 10th
birthday, I asked my dad to buy me Zelda 64. After I got it, many of my
classmates knew I have been playing it. They said that I could never finish
the game because I was a GIRL!!! duh! Well, someone challenged me on who
will finish the game first and complete items. So, we both erased our file
and started a new game. He finished it after 1 week and I finised it after 2
weeks. He went to my house and we checked our files. I completed all hearts,
skulltula, bottles, arrows, items, tunics and the Biggy sword(Biggoron). He
only has 3 bottles, 76 skulltulas, 16 hearts, 3 bottles, 2 magic arrows( he
forgot to get the Ice arrows) and only a dumb Giant's knife. After that, I
told every one that I beated him. Then, he was being teased by being beaten
by a girl. The thing is, he was being boastful. He was not the one who
beated the Deku Tree because he was a chicken-wuss and scared to Queen
Ghoma! After that, I started playing Final Fantasy VIII. Then, they started
teasing me for being a tomboy. The one who was teasing me was the one whom I
beated. So I just called him a chicken-wuss like I was Seifer. Then, he
stoped teasing me. Whenever I walk pasted him, he always whisperes to me,"
Your not bad, for a girl... " I sure teached him a lesson! I always told him
that girls can do what boys can. After that, some of my boy classmates let
me finish Zelda and Final Fantasy VIII for $20.00. Because it will take me a
lot of time to finish it. So then on, I was called Game Master.
Magali Says: Hi, my name is Magalí, I'm from Argentina and OF COURSE I love video games, and my favorite is The Legend of Zelda, any of them, I have beaten them all. I dont'n know why most of the guys thinks that the girls can't play video games, there are not only for them! most of us like to plaing them just like the boys! and I can tell you, that no one of my friends had ever beat me. In any game, Mario Kart, Street Fighter, any, I always win,
Specially if it's Zelda, not even my brother can beat me in that, maybe it's because I like the games so much, but it's like that, no one can beat me, and that's nothing to get ashemed of, we are all the same, boys, girls, all can play video games, there's no difference. I think your page it's geat, soon, I'll send you a story that I'm making, it's called: Link's Sister. Ok, sorry if there is an error, I'm learning English so... SORRY!!! CHAU!
? Girl Gamer #3 Says: i am a girl and i LOVE, video games, so u men[or should i say boys] better watch out cause not all girls talk about "cool" things. Some of us even talk about video games all the time, like me! me and my best friend [Ben] even act out some scenes from video games, and i always end up as the female character, who is usually a real whimp, but zelda, she rules, she is one of the best video game characters ever created,[ Princess Ruto is my favorite!!!!] i just wanted to say that video games aren't just for Boys, but girls too, so, watch out what u say about how good u are in a video game when me ro any female video game-player is standing by. & if u find this offensive, tough!!!![ not meaning to be too harsh]
Jenna Let's Everyone Know: Girl Gamers are so awesome! While most girls sit at home filing their nails or go shopping we are battling mosters and figuring out puzzles the likes of which mere chikas couldn't possibly understand! I love the Ocarina of Time and I have to only beat Ganondorf right now! RPG are the best kind! I am so happy you made this page for the best gamers of all...girl gamers! Watch out boys...here come the girls!
Allie Says: Hi! My name is Allie and I'm 14 years old and love to play RPG's. I just
wanted to say that I think it's great that you've set up such an awesome
website. I've been coming to your site for tricks and glitches in Z64 for
over a year. I am so thankful that you guys are finally figuring out that
we girl gamers are good at video games too. In school all the guys talk
about video games and are so amazed that I can actually follow along with
their conversations and still be interested and understand what the heck
they're talking about. I'm better than a lot of guys at video games. I have
been playing video games since I was about 6. As long as I can remember
actually all the way down to the original Mario Bros. for NES (which I still
have and play by the way). Well, I just wanna say thanx for your awesome
website once again! Well, ttyl :oP
Jackal6000 Puts In: I'm the best video game player in my house. My brother says he the best but
guess whos the one kicks his butt! I think there should be a Zelda game were
you can play ZELDA instead of Link. I now Link is cool and all but the game
is called Legend Of ZELDA!
Aquarius Makes Known: I am a girl and not only can i play games, my two sisters can too! my one
brother who is younger than me used to complain that i hogged the n64 too
much ,so i let him play. Guess who he asks to beat the game for him? i
helped him and my uncle so many times, i memorized how to beat the zelda64!
And also, i was talking to this guy in my class, and he's a total genius and
thought he was pretty good at games and stuff. you should have seen the look
on his face when i told him i beat 'pokemon' in 2 weeks. it took him 2
months! BTW, not all guys bomb in video games. you're a cool guy,
VideogamerX, and thanx for putting up this section. Maybe someday, Zelda
will save link from ganondorf!
Hylian Girl Adds: Hey! Thanks for making the girl section on your site. I've always thought
about how I am a girl and everyone thinks I'm bad at video games because of
that. At first I only watched my sister play video games. Then I became
intrested and started kicking butt! I always cream my sister at Super Smash
Brothers. My sister hasn't even gotten past Mido in Kokiri Forest yet. I've
already beaten Ganondorf(not Ganon because I did swordless link)! Most of the
boys in my class who have Zelda haven't even gotten past Kokiri forest! I luv
being a girl!
Heather a.k.a Link's Girl Eloquently Describes: Hey, My name is Heather, and I've grown up with Nintendo. My first memories were with the NES. I was still out of school in 1988 or so when
my dad had to have an operation that kept him out of work for a few weeks. Now don't get all, that was too bad. Sure, I didn't like my dad in
pain, but hey, I liked him home with me! Those days I remember in front of the TV watching him play Zelda, or one of the 3 original Marios.
Ahhh, those were the days... I still remember dad beating Zelda for the first time. It was awesome. And it was just as awesome the next million
times he beat it. Of couse, I played too, but being only 3 years old, I wasn't very good. My cousin Scott, had NES too. But he also had
Zelda2. I liked the game because you could talk to people, but it still didn't live up too the first Zelda. Ok, a few years go by. I still play
somewhat at home, and I play when I go to Scott's house. SNES appears. I go to my friend Heidi's house, and she has it. I fell in love with the
game, Donkey Kong Country. I got a SNES for Christmas the year after it came out. I had a few games for it. For my birthday I got the second
DKC. Ahh how I loved DK. Then enter my first boyfriend. He was also a video game addict. Imagene this... your guy playing SNES, while
holding your hand. It sounds impossible, but its not!!! Trust me I know! That March, my cousin, Scott, gave me his N64 for my birthday. (He
said he never played it...) I guess I was blinded by love, cuz I gave my SNES away to my boyfriend. Excuse me while I go BANG MY HEAD
INTO A WALL!!! That has to be one of the most stupidest mistakes I've ever made. Then, a month later, we broke up. Anywayz, I have my
N64, and a few games. Among them are, Pilot Wings64, Mario, Crusin' USA, Star Wars, and a few others. My favorite was Mario. So a few
months go past and I buy Wave Race 64, which is a good game, but not the best. After that, several games came out that I wanted, but I was
low in cash. Until a few months ago I had no real income, and I can't wait on Christmas and birthdays. I finally start babysitting and tutoring.
My cousin, Mike, got Zelda64 for Christmas in 1998. I remember the first time he beat it. He was almost there, and I was talking to his sister and
my best friend, Gayle. She was telling me what was going on, when his mom came in and told him to turn it off, he was on too much (on too
much... no such thing!). Lucky for me, the next day of school was a half day. I rode the bus home with Gayle. We ran in the house and
gathered around the TV to see Mike beat Gandroff. He beats him and Ganon. Then the ending comes up and we are all shouting our disgust at
the screen. We all hated the ending, and have been waiting for the sequal ever since. Ok, Mike has one spot on the game, Dennis, his bro,
has the second. Gayle, being very kind and generous, shares her spot with me. We work together on our level. But that becomes tiring. So
finally (after several people discouraging me not to, just to share Mike's) I bought Zelda the Monday after Christmas. The first day I had
already beaten the Deku Tree, and was half way through the Dogandgo (excuse the horrible spelling) Cavern. I quickly beat the first two
temples. My aunt and uncle gave me Donkey Kong 64 for Christmas. For awhile I was consumed in that game, but I soon was putting Zelda
back in it's rightful slot (the cartiage thingy on top of the N64). I beat the Ice Cavern on New Years Eve, and got into the Water Temple the next
day. Then Christmas vacation ended. And I had to go back to school. So things slowed down a bit. And there I've been ever since. I left the
Water Temple and went looking around for treasures like heart pieces and golden skulltilias. The Water Temple is really confusing, but I can do
it!!! Hey, I'm a Zelda Girl.
Game_Wulf Says: Hi Wuz Up? Thanks for putting this section on yuor page, I think it's great.
Video games were always my thing and just maybe growing up with three older
brothers influenced me a bit. All I can say is that girls kick butt in video
games, and I ain't gonna let any guy say other wise! Video Gamer X, I love
your site and visit as often as can. Keep up the fantastic work!
Cathy Comments: I have to say that this is one of the coolest sites ever. This part devoted
to girl gamers is the best. I am a 19 year old girl who has loved video game
since the first Nintendo came out. I was the first one who beat super Mario
brothers, before my brother, even thought the Nintendo was his. I also beat
numerous other games. Street Fighter 2 for SNES was a big favorite. I can
beat it strait through to the end without dying on level seven. I love all
the Final Fantasies as well and would also like to point out that in FF3 the
main character is a girl. I am currently playing FF5 on the anthology series
that was released. Zelda is one of the games I love the best though. From
the original Zelda to the Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. I can't wait for Zelda
Gaiden to come out either. I will buy it the first day it goes on sale.
Part of my AOL screen name is even Zelda. Don't get me wrong, I love to
paint my nails and shop but you can always find me late at night, like 4:00
in the morning talking to my boyfriend on the phone and playing my latest
video game. Thanks for listening-Cathy
Sarah Talks About: Society has various stereotypes and norms that they associate to being
female, and basically I fit them all. Like most women, shopping for me is
some innate, inherited hobby. I enjoy make-up. I couldn't live without my
curling iron. I talk on the phone for hours. My shoe collection is growing to
monstrous numbers. I'm as girly as it gets. And yet, what most people don't
realize, is that I'm a video game addict. Guys unwittingly doubt my
expertise, dismissing me as merely "a girl" who can't tell a controller from
a cellphone. They claim that my victory over them in Mortal Kombat was, of
course, some kind of fluke. That it was sheer luck, or they "let" me win.
Wrong again, buckos ;) I've been an avid gamer since the original Nintendo
was released, and have owned every single Zelda game known to man. Many
mind-numbing hours of my day went to Zelda64 before I beat it. I just find it
amusing that guys can't look beyond our gender to realize that we like other
things beside lipstick and credit cards. Guys are continually in awe of me
because I'm a huge Star Wars fan, or because I can watch "The Matrix" as many
time as they can. Come on fellas, give us girls some credit! We know how to
have fun too ;) Thanks for listening!
Holly K. Says: I was raised on gaming. When I was 6 mo. old my sister put a controller in my hands and moved my thumbs to make mario jump. It was my favorite thing to do! I live, breath and eat gaming. One day, my x-boyfriend started to say somthing about gaming and stopped thinking I wouldn't know anything about it, lets just say I showed him a thing or two. In fact it was me who told him Zelda64 even existed!
ZeldaGerudo1 Asserts: I'm a girl and guys sometimes call think I'm gay because I enjoy Pokemon, Nintendo64 and other stuff. Thank you, Video gamer X, for helping me to realize that it's not just me!!!
Ria Puts In: Thanks 4 this site ! a lot of girls now play video games , but while I was reading other peoples letters I thought that this was true: Girls become affected by the enemies and the music/scenery, but are way better at solving the puzzles. I can even give advice to some guys about this great game!
Rotis66 Says: Hmm... interesting. I'm not sure whether I should be amused or offended...
I'm a female gamer, yes, but most people don't realize it. Probably because I
always go by Rotis; while it's technically a non-specific name (which is
partially why I use it in the first place), everyone immediately assumes I'm
a guy. Then again, I typically don't act like a ditz, so there you go. :P I,
like many others who have written in, have been playing video games for as
long as I've been able to and have watched family members play them since
before I knew how. (I can remember being little and getting very frustrated
when I couldn't play the game as well as whoever I had been watching.)
However, there's a twist to this... the people I watched were ALWAYS one of
my older sisters or my mom. Yes, you heard me... so the "...you better make
room for your sister, your girlfriend, and even your mom..." thing isn't
entirely accurate. My mom played video games back in the days of NES and
SNES/Genesis, and probably Atari too but I wasn't around back then. She
doesn't like the 3-D games, though, and my oldest sister (who used to get
Nintendo Power, by the way--I found a big stack of NP issues from 1991-1994
yesterday, addressed to her) has moved away... but she was home for
Thanksgiving when we picked up our reserved copy of Ocarina of Time when it
first came out, and she got to the N64 before I did... after a brief battle
for the controller, I ended up just watching as *she* got a crack at one of
the best games I have ever played. I can easily say that if it weren't for my
mom and sister, I wouldn't be half the game freak that I am today...
Heh... as for whether or not girls can cut it as gamers... well, let me put
it this way. Two of the guys at my shop table last year and I had a contest
going to see who could beat the game first. Take a wild guess at who won...
by several temples, I might add. ;)
ERRIN Says: I've been playing video games, for like, a million years (Well, almost, I am only 16). I don't just play cute games like Ape Escape (although I do like them), my favorites are RPG's. I beat Zelda after only four days of getting
it (I missed tonnes of secrites, I played it through again and found them) without a stradigy guide, and I didn't die once. I love games from Square, and my current favorites are FF7 (yes, it beats FF8 in my books), and Zelda. Whenever I talk to guy friends about it, they give me startled looks like
"you play video games?" Whenever people talk about them, I join in and I get odd looks at first, mostly because I know more about them than they do. I'm always told that I'm the first girl they meet that even give a second glance at games.
Well, that's my story. It may not be an interesting one, but I thought I
thought it might as well be herd, since I am one of the girls who play video
games.
Girl Gamer xyz Tells: hey, im a girl and I like video games, too. I was in a carpool with these two guys and we were racing to see who could beat the game first, and we weren't allowed to give each other hints. Guess who won? Thats right, I
won, and they finished the game about a month after me. I still play the game, and I love it, and your site. It sux that I have a gray cart, though, I bought it the day after they stopped making gold carts. So I can't do swordless link, i've tried. But I love this game anyway, I beat mario ( i have all 120 stars) and i always beat my friends at nintendo. (sorry If i sound concieted, i'm just mad at the guys who laugh and say, "i cant imagine a girl playing zelda.") anyways, you know what i entered as links 'name'?
Sexy Legs! It's so funny to hear Zelda, the Owl, and all the other characters complimenting Link's buff legs. LoL! Thanks for this section, it really makes me feel more comfortable about coming to your site.
Abby Relates: Hey Video Gamer X, Let me just start out by saying you have a great site, and it was also great to start this page. Video games just arent for guys anymore. I know more and more girls getting into the gaming experience. And yeah, I do love Zelda, but i love just about any other game too, i dont care if its bloody or whatever. Ever since I had my NES i've loved video games, but i never got into zelda until Ocarina of Time, its one of the best games ever, best RPG too! Thanks Video Gamer X!
Jaclyn Says: Hey! I'm a girl and I've been playing video games since I don't know when. I own atari, gameboy (original and pocket), gamegear (which sux), NES, and N64. Also I just want to say that girls CAN like pro wretling not just because the guys are hot but because they like what they see. They like to see the guys pound on each other. Girls are stereo typed so much and I hate that. luv always
SmallLady5000 Adds: Hey, I have played video games for over 8 years now, and I have still not found a game that I can't beat within a matter of days! And guess what , I'm a GIRL! Yep, that's right. It is very hard to play some video games you have to have fast reflexes and you have to think hard to get yourself out of some situations or chambers. My favorite game is Zelda ( right next to Metal Gear.) Some people say video games can brain wash you ( yeah right )but I say they prepare me for the real world ( in some situations ) Well thanx for letting say for what's on our minds. you have a great sight.
Anonymous Comments: Hey! I've been playing video games ever since I was 4. I started out playing Zelda and Link on Nintendo, but then I wanted to play more games. Mario was another game that I liked to play but Zelda is a whole lot better. Everytime I have a party my friends want to play the N64 or Playstation. So far I have beat about 50 games. I am working on Zelda64,and some games on the playstation. Girls are better at playing video games than boys. Sometimes girls can even fight better than boys. Anyway I hope to see the new Zelda game coming out soon. So girls are moving up to #1
Rebecca Says: Hi I've allways loved videogames like Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Donkey Komg, Banjokazooei, allmost every videogame that nintendo made! Hope this gets to *Zeldagirl*, I like watching video games more than playing them. *Luv You!*
Aeris1 Puts In: Thanks for letting us girls write our opinions! A game like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is so good because of the good story line! Plus all of the battle features are equally important. I like games with more of a romantic feel to them. A good example of this is Final Fantasy VII. But nothing beats The Legend of Zelda!! Even though I'm a girl, I have the most knowledge of video games in my whole school. There is not a single day that goes by without someone asking me how to do something in The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. And I'm only 15!!
Janna Says: Hi! My name is Janna. Most guys at my school think that they can kick my butt at Zelda but I prooved them wrong! And badly too! I totaly kick a guys butt when we were doing a compatition. He was totaly surprized at how far I got in less than half an hour! I can get passed from the deku tree all the way passed the Water Temple in less than half an hour. Even a teacher challenged me! He was good, but no better than me!
GG Says: Hi! I am currently 13 and have been playing video games since I can remember! The first video games I played were on the computer! These were simple games but fun! Then we got Nintendo for christmas and I beat my first video game(little mermaid) in 3 days at the age of 5! Then after beating all the other games we owned... we bought SNES! This was a new experience...it was much better graphics! After battling and beating all these games i moved on to Game Boy. After conquering this we continued to replay games getting better and better until N64 came out! We bought it and I beat Mario in a week! Then we got a whole bunch of games which I beat and then we got Zelda..This was to me and awesome game! I beat it twice in a 1month(i had to share it with my older brothers!) and i recently beat it this weekend! You might think ahh shes lying...WRONG! I tell the truth! I was raised in a gaming family what can I say! Anyways I'm waiting to buy Harvest Moon 64 and then when Zelda:Gaiden comes out that! One thing more....
Carrie Proclaims: Hey yo peoples!!! I'm a girl and I LOVE video games!!! Girl's usually aren't as vocal about video games as they are movies and clothes..but we enjoy it just as much if not more!! But, I must give credit to my lil brother and dad for getting me started on video games. My friends and I get together to shop, go see movies, and play video games!! We love just hanging together and flirting with my brother's older friends and beatin the crap outta them!!! I don't know why, but all the girls I know have much better aim at shooting on video games than guys do.. So you Guys Better Watch Out!! Girls are comin through!!
Princess Zelda Explains: Thanks for putting this on your site! I am a true Nintendo Girl. I've beaten Zelda64 probably about ten times. Many people would think that a girl's toy is a little pink dolly and a "Pinky Dinky Princess" Barbie. Actually, a real girl's tool would be a Nintendo64 system and a Zelda64 cartridge. I have a library of about 10 video games, and I have pretty much every bit of Zelda64 collector's items. I remember reading in a magazine an article called "Why Girls Shouldn't Play Video Games." Absurd! Those people who wrote that article obviously have cheese for brains. If I met them, I'd challenge them to a MarioKart64 battle, and beat their butts off. That would show them that girls can really pick up that controller and have some N64 fun! That is what I have to say, as a Zelda Girl. Thanks for reading this.
Pizzaz Says: Hi! I am Pizazz. Video Gamer X, I love The Odyssey of Hyrule. I just wanted to add in my two cents about girls and video games. I got into video games at around the age of 6 from watching my stupid cousin Jamie
play his Super Nintendo. For my 7th birthday, I got my first system: Super Nintendo. I wasn't too good but GOD did I ever have FUN!! My favourite game for SNES is The Secret of Mana. I don't have that game, I only rented it. I haven't seen it since N64 came out. I really miss it,
but I can play the opening theme song for Secret of Mana on the piano (thanks to my piano teacher, I'm actually playing it as a regular practice song). Two years ago, I got my Nintendo 64 for Christmas. Oh,
how I loved Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I still do love that game. I have every item, but I just need two more gold skulltulas. Hey wait, I can play many Zelda songs on the piano! I can play all of the ocarina songs
(the full version), including the Windmill song (Song of Storms) and Zelda's Lullaby. Thanks again to my piano teacher, Zelda's Lullaby and the Nocturne of Shadow are now regular piano songs. My best record for playing Zelda's Lullaby is 12 seconds. Thank you Mrs. Loomis! I should
also give credit to my friend Epona and Elyse for helping me get the music to those songs. Thanks guys! I think Link is a MAJOR hottie. Sorry this is so long. I had a lot to say. Thanks Video Gamer X for putting up 'Zelda Girl' on your site. You're the best! See 'ya!
LINK*S_QUEEN Would Like to Bring To Our Attention:I know this might be a late addition since the last e-mail you got on
this section but I was sooo moved by it that I wanted to add my 2 cents
in. I have been playing games since 1984. I'm now 23 yrs old and have had
many experiences w /video games. I used to get all of the crap about how
girls or even women shouldn't play video games. Even through school a lot
of the guys I was in school with thought I wouldn't be into video games.
Here is a scenario. It was 1994 and Sega had not been out that long and I
really wanted it. So for about 6 months I saved up my allowance, did odd
jobs for my parents and saved up any loose change I was able to find( Yes
I did always look under the couch cushions for loose change.) and put it
all into a small bank. I even saved pennies. I cannot even count to this
day how many pennies I must have rolled into those little penny sleeves.
But through enough saving I was able to buy the Sega Genesis with my own
money. I had a friend named Tony and he called himself the quote on
quote "Game God or Expert." I had gotten Sonic 2 in with the Genesis
system and Tony already had it and beaten it. He kept telling me "You'll
never beat it." "Its too hard." No matter how much I tried to tell him he
was never convinced that I would beat it. I spent hrs on it even so that
my mother would get mad at me for playing it soo much. But one day on a
weekend I was up at 12.30 at night and I got to Robotnick. I must have
done the Metal Sonic part at least a dozen times but I finally got the
pattern down and beat it. Then it was Robotnick. After trying that a
dozen times I finally learned the pattern and BEAT him. I must have done
cart wheels. The very next day I beat it again in front of Tony and he
retracted everything he said. He even challenged me to a game of Mortal
Kombat. Guess who kicked his @$$! Wink Wink ^_- !
I must have had every system known to man. I remember the old Atari. I
used to whip @$$ at Joust and Berserk. Shoot I was only 6 when I whipped
Berserk around. I even remember when we first moved to FL. My parents and
I. There was a kid named Ryan who lived across the street from me. He had
a brother named Richard. Who was a lot older then me and his brother
Ryan. He was a total jerk. He used to say I sucked at video games. He
once let me borrow his Zelda and Dragon Warrior.(man I loved that game)
and I kicked Dragon Warrior around. Didn't play Zelda much until much
later but I proved him wrong when I got to levels on Dragon Warrior he
couldn't get to. I proved to be a better gamer then him. And I was only
9. I was never really into Barbies. I was into Dinosaurs and playing in
the woods we had behind the playground with my friends. We used to climb
trees and build tree forts. I really never did "Girl things" only with
some things like I was into She-ra at the time. But I even remember
liking Ninja Turtles. So you see guys have no right to say girls cannot
like what the guys like. It is a total asinine statement. I'm 23 and I
have a N64 Playstation Dreamcast and GBC. I have Ocarina of Time and have
beaten it over 5 times. Shoot I beat it for the first time inside of a
week. Faster the my friend Cory did.(A guy of course) I usually beat a
game in a week if I play it at least for 2 hrs a day. But Ocarina of Time
is da best even over Majora's Mask (Which I have) I seem to have a
special bond w/ the ppl in the games. Link with the most of corse. Hence
the name I gave. He is sooo fine, his ears are soo damn cute, But he
reminds me of how strong of a person I am. I know that you don't have to
be a guy to be into video games. The game designers never really intended
it to be for just the guys. It doesn't really matter what other ppl
think, just have fun and enjoy video games. Wasn't that what they were
made for? Go Girls! Oh BTW I just wanted to say to VGX, your suite's DA
BOMB! Thx sooo much. Please post this! Thx,Link*s_Queen
