EVEN MORE IMPRESSIONS

It has been about five months since Zelda 64 was initially released and still the game is bringing up a lot of questions regarding itself and the future of the Zelda series. Many feel that there were aspects that needed to be improved such as the unfulfilling ending. Some agree that Zelda is the greatest game of all time thus far, but being true gamers that they are want to expand on what has already been done with the game and express options and avenues for improvement. I, myself think that as the Nintendo 64 passes into history Zelda: The Ocarina of Time will be remembered as one of the greatest, if not THE greatest game ever made for that system. It was a trendsetter and the milestones it created will continue to be emulated in future gaming adventures. I'm sure Nintendo has learned many lessons from Zelda 64 and the gamers who play the game. Someday, perhaps not next year or the following year, but there will be a sequel to this game made for Nintendo's Next Millenium System and that game will further amplify the Zelda experience.

Matcraze Suggests: Good day! Overall, I believe that Zelda was a great game, but, I do have some negatives too. A positive was the new feel of the 3D landscape. This impressed me, for it provided a lot of room for detail. You could stop and look around at your surroundings in a first person perspective! This has never been done in a Zelda game, and added a sense of realism. The battle techniques were totally new, such as Z targeting, which helps a lot, and bran new sword fighting moves for Link. This was good, for it gave Link a wider expanse of skill that in the other games, where all you could do is slash and twirl, did not do. Alas, there were some downers with this game too. It makes me upset that when you go through all those troubles to get all 100 Gold Skulltulas, all you get is 200 rupees! What is wrong with this picture? You don't need many rupees in the game, and can go through the game hardly spending anything at all. Why not some awesome new weapon, or the technique of firing a bolt of energy from the tip of your sword when your hearts are filled? Another thing, the music is hardly worth listening to! The original theme isn't even in the game, which I think is a sort of blasphemy to the Zelda name since it has ALWAYS been in the series. The only cool music is Gerudo Valley. I could listen to that all day long! There was something that struck me odd... if Ganondorf ravaged the land, shouldn't it look a little bit more ravaged? Kokiri Forest, Hyrule Market, Lon Lon Ranch, and Kakariko Village were good at being affected, but why isn't there creepy crawlies everywhere in Hyrule field? It would seem more scary, since Ganondorf took over, if you're walking along, then suddenly you're ambushed by 3 ReDeads! Or at night, Kakariko is haunted by angry Stalchilds and Poes. This doesn't happen of course, but to get the correct feel of evil across the land, Hyrule needs those kinds of things to happen. Lastly, the ending was a total bummer! Link's forced to do it over again?? WHAT!? It makes no sense! This is the only ending I know of in a game that nothing has changed! Sure, everything's hunky dorey seven years from now, but Link is doomed to go back before Ganondorf is banished and start again? I think it would be better if Link was changed back into a child, but not having to go back in time. He would just return home, and the Kokiri kids welcome him back from seven years of exile! Other than these things, the game was great.

Sailor Zelda Commends: I must say as a first timer to Nintendo and to the Zelda world...this game was great! It went beyond any normal rpg-adventure games I've played. I've recently finished the game and I luved every second of it. From beginning to end...and even the funny moments with bosses...such as Bongo Bongo and Komeu and Kotaku...or however you spell it. I've been hooked to Zelda ever since...and I just got Link's Awakening for color gameboy. That in itself is cool as well! I have yet to finish it!

JAW214 Says: Zelda 64 was a great game! I don't like how easy it is to find stuff unlike the nes zeldas. I think the triforce is the main goal for everyone who has played the game, and heard the legend! that tics me off because its not in there!!!!! I mean ok, it would be to easy to get the triforce right from first beat of the game, but even if you have to have 0 game overs, all 100 scullitulas, and all the hearts, I still think it should be accessable!!! I was so dissapointed with the ending, that I wanted to wrte Mr. Miyamoto! I still like the game, and am glad I bought it, but it could have been way better with more time!

PREDMAN85 Expresses: Two words "Best game ever".Of course there were some down sides to the game ,but those are just the thing you got to ignore.I've played some of the old games on the super nintendo and those were great to ,but theres just something about zelda64.When i first played the game the first things that caught my eyes were the grafics and how they took the old games and put the 3-D detail on the charecters,I was amaze.there were some thing i would have change though.First i would have made it so that in the game there was a way you could have different story lines depending on what you did, when you did it, and how you did,for example, you could prevent ganondworf from geting his hands on the triforce and make it so that the point othe game would be to get to the sacred relem and obtain the triforce.Second there was the bosses. Some of them were just to easy, for example the final ganon he was easyer than the phantom ganon, and phantom ganon said the real ganon would not be so easy. But those are the downs and there were certainly ALOT more better stuff that bad. Well thats my opinion of the game.

Cojiro Writes: First of all, I love your site, it's better than Zelda 64 Central, Zelda Power, and HYRULE: The Land of Zelda combined. As for Zelda, it is by far the greatest video game ever created, for any system. As far as I'm concerned, any game the beats up the PSX is good enough for me. Zelda 64 is truly an incredible game. The only word in the English language that comes within a fifty-mile radius of describing it is PHENOMENAL. The impact of the game was perfect. I didn't preorder in time to get the gold version, but I'm perfectly happy with the gray one I got. I can still do all of the cool tricks that are in the gold version. The ending was better than it's cracked up to be. Of course Zelda sent you back to your original time. How would you feel if you lost seven years of your life, and woke up as an adult with the mind of a ten-year-old? Talk about a rough life. I don't know if the Triforce is obtainable in the game, but I think it's possible. After spending three years on this game. I don't think that the programmers would leave out an important item like that. I know that the storyline for LTTP was set up in Zelda 64, but if you can get the Triforce, the next Zelda game may fill in the gap of how Ganon got it back. But I may just be being a little too hopeful. I believed Luigi was in Super Mario 64, for a time. But that's twice that something was left out in a Miyamoto game. After all of the raging about the missing Luigi, I doubt that Miyamoto would make the same mistake in the game of the century. If that really is what the game is called, there's bound to be something in there that no one has found yet. This is just my own personal opinion, and you are entitled to yours.

William Miller Comments: I thought the ending was a little dumb. Getting 100 gold skullitas and 20 hearts in all. It was more fun playing than winning. I beat Ganondorf(and Ganon) in 30 min. the first time I played him. It was harder beating Volvaga. It was a good game.

TAConan Describes: Don't get me wrong here, I enjoyed playing Zelda64 and everything, but I don't think at all that the game deserves to be praised so much and honored as the best game of all time. The main reason I disliked the game was probably the difficulty of the game. I mean come on, how hard is it to figure out to bomb a wall with a huge indentation and a flourescent color on it? They should have made the dungeons much harder. Like in the other Zeldas where if you run out of an item, you have to go back to a villiage and go buy some more. The rupees were way to easy to get, AND they shouldn't have made it that you can get really expensive items without buying it (Fish, Blue Fire, Bug etc.). Epona was a huge bummer, I mean why can you only use arrows while on her? You should have been able to use all the items ( I have the version of Zelda without swordless link). There weren't enough magic spells, when they say that whoever adds his/her power to yours, you should get a spell with it or something. Ganon's Castle was way too easy. You should've had to fight all the bosses and mini-bosses over. There weren't enough real sword-fighting battles, I actually have an extra file saved right up to the part where you fight Dark Link because I found that battle really fun to do over and over. There should have been a multiplayer to it that two people could fight each other that would've been awesome! And, Ganon really was probably the easiest boss in the game (besides Queen Gohma)! THE ENDING SUCKED! Sending Link back in time? That's so stupid! He didn't even get any play from Zelda! The only hope that this game can be better than I think it is, is if the Triforce really exists. If that ever happens I'll eat my words. Otherwise I think Zelda is just as good as any other game. And you guys think this game is better than Goldeneye? Dream On...

Matt Comments: This was the best game ever made. I am still playing it and I got it for X- mas. But the next Zelda game they make needs to be, bigger playing area (Hyrule is so freakin small) there needs to be more spells (three spells kind of got old), , more and harder dungens and puzzles (most of them weren't hard cuz that stupid fairy told you everything), the ending pissed me off too I was about to throw my 64 out the window when I saw it, oh yeah and they need to get rid of the fairy she is so annoying and she tells you the secrets to everything. But other than that it was the best game ever made!

DUC78 Wrote: i think the game was great i thought the creators did a great job on thing that makes me mad are people who get mad with little flaws like the game was smaller than they wanted it to be but compared to other games like it's huge and i think this site is great =-)

Ace813 Points Out: Are you people STUPID!! Yes the ending is bad. Link gets sent back in time, yes, Link has to relive the whole experience again, WRONG!! Dont you see Link goes back but to go through it again he has to break the seal in the temple of time. And by doing this he would have to pull te Master Sword from the pedistal thereby showing Ganon the way to the Sacred Realm. And if you people recall he is not to pul it again. DUH!

Ryan Sudds Says: I thought the game was very fun. it was wasn't as hard as I thought it would be ( I did have the Player's guide though) it wasn't as big as i hoped. I loved the sound and the graphics. Why didn't they put that song that they usually put in Zelda games. I love that song! I still play the game looking for the triforce is fun but very frustrating! overall i liked it ALOUGHT!!

Kano523 Relates: Zelda rules.Allmost everything is perfect. Everyone says the ending bites but i loved it because gannon is sealed in the evil realm even after link travels back in time.Link got to return to normal and live those seven years he missed. He didn't forget what happened that's why he visited zelda.Maybe it was easy in some parts but name one game that's perfect.People are saying its not medieval enough its not supposed to be medieval in the first palce.I still think the triforce is in the American version of zelda. One more thing about the bug that lets you see through links eyes.A bug I don't think so its too detailed to be a bug it has to serve some purpose.

Ali Ezzeddine Explains: Overall, Zelda: Ocarina of Time was the best on the N64 yet, possibly the best EVER yet. But, there were some problems...the Overworld Theme perhaps? Triforce? Blade beam attack? Lots of crap that were in the game taking up space that could have been used for cooler stuff. Like the Windmill cucco??? Waste of cart space. Maybe it has a use, but, I doubt it.

The game was quite a tough challenge, though, assuming Ive never played Zelda in 3D. It was like, I was stuck every 10-15 minutes.

However, unlike other people, I think the music was GREAT! Maybe not all of them, but most.

I just wish there was a 4 player mode, taking advantage of the N64's multiplayer capabilities. Lets say, you could choose from a 2-4 player battle mode or a 2-4 player quest...man, that would be fun!

There was also another problem, the bosses. They were EASY!! Man, I think the Water Temple alone was harder than all the mini bosses and bosses put together! And about Dark Link, he is EASY! Beat him on the FIRST try and lost just ONE heart. I also beat Twinrova on the first try, without losing ANY hearts. The Spirit Temple was the easiest, I didnt get stuck anywhere there.

Overall, a great experience! Keep it up, Miyamoto!

Altair713 Puts in Simply: Two Words: KICK ASS!!

Shawn Rogers Tells: The ending was so cool. I, like the girl who won the letter of the month in January, got a HUGE religious impact from this game! The ending just was showing that saying, "Time flows and history repeats." It was repeating the courtyard scene. I don't really believe in religion, just having your own beliefs. I have my own ideas about where we came from and such stuff, but the Legend of Zelda series of games, carttons, and comics have had the greatest impact on my life. The Triforce legends about the 3 virtues: totally true! Without courage, you'd be afraid of things. Without wisdom, you wouldn't be able to make your own decisions. Without power, you'd be bossed around yourwhole life. I am balanced and hate fixed religion. I have played Zelda games sinceI was 6 and never have I not liked one of them. Also, like the girl, I relate to Link and Zelda. I make my decisions based on my dreams and I have that chivalrous quality Link has. I could keep on going about how this game has touched me and how I relate to the characters (including Ganondorf), but I'd be writing all night. Shigeru Miyamoto, I thank you!

FrEaKFsH Points Out: I think that Nintendo needs to take more time on their games. I thought that Zelda was the easiest game ever after I beat it in one blockbuster rental. I mean, I didn't need any help, and even had the chance to help one of my friends who always helped me. Zelda: A great game none the less, yet Nintendo and third-party companies need to creat better, more challinging games.

Xtreme8730 Says: Well I'd like to say that i've beaten' the Zelda 64 game a few times a few months back and i still can't get over the feeling that i finally beat it. It's an outstaning game it may become a thing of the past in a year or 2 put damn what a good felling you get when you beat it but I expected more from facing Ganon and I also wonder why they don't show Link and Zelda in a fancy wedding at the ending. I think Princess Zelda owes it to Link to hook up for all he has done for him and Hyrule but instead they just put a picture from when they first met. To the creature of this sight i have seen your Z-Files and I too think it is unfare that the Japanese only get the added dungen, sences, etc. I think its some new plans thought of for maybe a sequel to the game don't forget Ganon did say he would return. For my last coment I say the creator of this sight did one hell of a job.

MiFelps007 Comments: Ok first off, I think this game was DA BOMB! G! AWSOME! COOL! Whateva ya wanna say! The things that could of been inproved was that there could have been weapons that you used as a child, as an adult, visa versa. Also there should have been extra duengons that you could battle enemies in. Also there should of been a battling game where you get in a pit and battle with up to three opponents, computer or human, and the best thing would be to battle across the internet!!! I'd like to have more arrows, and more spells. Din's fire, Naryu's Love, and Farore's Wind were okay, but there should be more. The beam blade shouldnt have been taken away. Also the elusive pegausus boots and platinum scale shouldnt have been taken away. The unicorn fountain should of had a secret to it and oh yeah that pic of the triforce on the unicorn is a LOGO of it. The Rupees should be more useful. I mean, theres no use for them. Also that dumb game error where you get all your rupees and sell something, you still have the same amount. That sucks. Well anyway, the game only took me 1 hour to beat (Yeah Right)...

Guy Palardy Relates: I agree that there should have been more spells and songs and being able to actually USE the power of the medallions. There should have been different swords like a Fire, Ice, Rock, Wind, and a Time Sword. There should also have been different tunics like a Light Tunic, which would reduce your damage fairly. A Earth Tunic, you could like butt into enemies and damage them physically. A Wind Tunic, so you could move faster in speedy situations. And a Time Tunic, so you could warp back from child to adult whenever you wanted, even in temples. And also, you could actually collect the Triforce. That would be awesome! I still have some hope that there is an actual Triforce in the game. I mean, the entire game revolves around this magnificent object, yet, it just disappeared like that. There should be a better choice of boots, like an improvement for the Hover Boots that could have you actually have you hover up and down and miles away from certain ledges. Of course, it would use up magic. There should have been a Spike Boot, a Metal Boot, and a Hyrulian Boot. There should have been different things like whips and maces and stuff like that. There would be more Ocarina Songs, an extra Ocarina, cooler songs, extra scales and gauntlets such as a Time Gauntlet, Light Gauntlet, Platinum Gauntlet, and stuff like that. There should have been more bosses and older bosses with better moves. For instance, there would be a Dark Gohma that shoots spikes, a blade beam, lens of truth vision, little shock pads on it's feet, and like a sort of a slow spell that slows you down so it can beat you up. There should have been also more relationships, sages, and of course, a midevil stadium where you could compete with up to 8 players, max 4 human and four computer. You could be Zelda, Sheik, Impa, any of the Sages, and of course, Link. Choices for computers would be Lizafos, Dinofos, Stalfos, Gerudo Guards, and sometimes, bosses. If you completed and won a certain number of battles, you would recieve prizes like a Golden Rupee, Bombs, Arrows, Bombchus, or an improvement for a weapon. The ending could have been nicer, but I have got to say that it was sort of funny watching them dance! And there would be extra temples for the corresponding medallions and a huger game. Like, when you beat and saved Hyrule, Ganondorf would sight a different land and try to take over it and use that land to wage war on Hyrule. That way, the maximum playing time on your first try would be something like 800 hours. There would be more masks, places to go, and much more. When I come up with ideas I will post them on your site. Bye! And by the way, post me as J:P on the Impressions page. And finally, drumroll please, bye!

POS25 says: Over all I thought Zelda 64 was a great game: great controls, great grafix, ok story line, not so great ending and spells. I especially like the wide choice of weapons like longshot. I'm not a game person or whatever but i have to say the length of the game was kinda bad(of course other people might like the length of it). One question-why do the gaurds throw u out when ur there to save the incredibly SMALL land of Hyrule? I thought that there should've been more mini games than the Bombchu, treasure shop, slingshot/bow, and the fishing thingie. u can say that the diving thingie is a mini game too. I also thought that zelda 64 didn't have a realistic goal. If it was the tri-force we were after then I would say what an ultimate ending this would be. Miyamoto did a great job in keeping the suspense but after all those titles isn't time to actually let us get the triforce?!?!?!(atleast let us know the secret of it like what powers it has and not saying that it's from 3 godess) CMON MAN!!!!!! If it's for ANOTHER sequel then Miyamoto might lose a lot of customers if not fans. Also, what's up with the skulltula thingie? and for getting all of em and u get 100 rupees? CMON!!!!!....u can find more than that!!!!!! I also thought the ending could've been a lot better(see Micheal Nicholas Broxterman's impression, i loved ur endings). Besides the horse and the warp thingie there should've been better transportation like a giant bird or something. THIS IS A VIDEO GAME!!!! USE UR IMAGINATION.....FANTASY. There also could've been a lot more spells, this game is like Robin Hood goes to the future(bad comparison, i know) and the characters......Link should get atleast a closer relationship with some of the female characters besides the FISH LADY and the horse(dat's what malon said). I thought the game was rushed in the end in trying to get it out be4 christmas or whatever because if i compared this with other great Zelda titles then this wouldn't be as good as Link's Awakening or something. For every1 in those tight budgets like me or the smart ones that like to save money(also like me), please don't release the sequel in that n2000(don't know if it's a rumor or not) or that 64DD krap.

one more small thing- when u go back to Hyrule Castle/Market after u collected the 3 spiritual stones, how come the people in the Market go on with there business and doesn't give a krap that there princess escaped from Ganon and I thought parctically every gaurd would be gone looking for the princess and how come we never see the king or anything?

Jesus (Hay-sus) Comments: Hey there... it's probably been like years from the moment you uploaded for the last time your webpag on Zelda, but still, I've got to comment on the game.. I actually didn't like Zelda like 4 months ago, but then i got the zelda 3 rom, played it, and loved it. Then I asked a friend of mine for the Z64, and actually loved it. I think that I expected more of the game, I mean, the bosses were just so easy for me... I'm not saying that I'm gifted or anything, they were just easy. For instance, to beat Ganondorf, I just killed him with two arrows! I expected like fighting him like for 1 hour or so, and to get killed every 5 minutes. I rarely used my four bottles. The sequence of events is just SO predictable, and at the end, Zelda (I don't remember if it was Sheik or Zelda) says something like "If your after the Triforce..." and, c'mon, you never get it!! You never get a chick or somethin, (this reminds me on one of the gossip-stones when it says that princess zelda is rather a tomboy.... what should I do? Or the one that says that Malon hopes that some day an armored knight sweeps her off her feet... Now what? Another one, Princess Ruto... well, she always says that Link's her fiancée, but he never gets anything...) On the other hand, graphics are just perfect, really awesome. If I could grade the game's graphics with an 11, I would do it. The cutscenes when you're about to kick some boss-ass is just outstanding... For example : "Great King of Evil - GANONDORF".... Man that is so cool.... I think that not releasing more Zelda is such a waste of money by Nintendo... Zelda's a great game, no doubt. I think that the game was just too short... I mean, there should be more quests or more things to do... not just wander around doing nothing... I mean, I completed the game in like 4 or 5 days, There should be more... and knowing that nintendo just cut so much great material from the game just makes me sick... I need a new Zelda to play... it was just so fun... Link gets no credit for saving Hyrule, he's just told to go recover the lost time! Who wants to recover the lost time?? I want to kick some evil butt!! I want the triforce!! I want this game to be the never-ending story, just a lot more fun...

Back to the Odyssey of Hyrule
