Page 5: Counting the cover, page 1, and page 2, we are currently 3 Feis strong. It didn't take long to bring that count up to 4 with this handy Fei who seems to be here to give us some game tips.

Fei Count: 4

Page 11: So, on page 1 I mentioned they had access to a second piece of Fei art. This will be the only time I point this one out, because I think that it must be known that this isn't actually Fei's default dialogue portrait. What this is is a portrait used for Fei when he is sad, which only appears for a few specific lines of dialogue late in the game. Not only that, but this strategy guide spoils one of the massive late-game twists in the last paragraph of his character profile for no real reason. Maybe that's the reason Fei is so sad here. Seriously, I have no idea how this is the other piece of art the design team had.

Fei Count: Still 4 because this one doesn't count.

Page 23: This one's fun! Look, that gang's all here! Bart, Citan, Billy, and that's it.

Fei Count: 5

Page 27: Fei wants us to know how to jump - a very important skill.

Fei Count: 6

Page 44: A 17-page gap may trick you into thinking the Fei appearances are slowing down, but rest assured Ron Wartow and the other folks at BradyGames are here to ensure that no boss fight goes without a little pocket-sized Fei alongside it.

Fei Count: 7

Page 46: As if making up for lost time, we have another Fei just a page later!

Fei Count: 8

Page 93: For a few pages, the information on the Kislev part and various boss battles flowed in, leaving very little room for Fei. The designers also remembered that Bart existed, using the same image of Bart twice but flipped the second time, and Rico was there too. But in the end, Fei prevails, sneaking in here and looking very small.

Fei Count: 9

Page 130: Considering the chapter is titled "The Return of Fei" I'd be disappointed if he didn't show up here. Luckily, BradyGames hasn't let me down. Bart has also become gigantic.

Fei Count: 10

Page 170: This is also not a picture of Fei, but I just wanted to point out this extremely weird diagram where they misspell Deus's name despite them using it multiple times in the paragraphs above.

Fei Count: Still 10

Tragically, that's the end of the Same Picture of Fei Fong Wong.

Final Fei Count: 10. While this is a lot fewer than I remember, it's still very, very funny that they only had this image and the one really specific mugshot - on page 181 they use the sad mugshot in Fei's Deathblow chart while everyone else gets their normal profile pics. I highly recommend looking through this strategy guide as a fan because it's a powerfully weird look into a game that definitely didn't have enough people working on anything related to it when it came to US coverage and distribution.

So, now I leave with you a page from the guide that for the longest time convinced me that Xenogears was a game about getting naked on the moon.

I mean, hey, I'm not exactly wrong.
