Questions & Answers

1. Why do all this?

I have been cursed with eternal loyalty to a form of media which had its glory days decades before I was born. I just think radio is neat, and I've thought internet radio was even neater thanks to WTMK (which is still going strong) and the Zone Radio Network.

2. What are your future plans?

Well, I want to add some more content to the Sleep section of EMN Radio TV and generally work on atmosphere and curation for fun. More longplays and stream audio and general chill mood things that make for good rest-and-relaxation background noise. The biggest project, though, will be doing more with EMN Vibes to try and create a page on this site with a video element to simulate how the channel itself works. Thinking an automatically-playing YouTube playlist on a page that plays the radio stream as well and speeds the YouTube videos to 1.5x speed, similar to the channel...but y'know, gussied up.

3. Why does the page look like this?

When I was a kid visiting England you could access something called Teletext, a way of sending information over the airwaves. It was an awesome way to get access to info straight from your TV and it had this glorious 3-bit aesthetic. I made this page as a bit of an art project first to try and replicate it and then decided to make it a bit more practical. If you want to know more about the history of Teletext and similar, this article is great. There's also an amazing site attempting to document old "issues" of Digitiser, a video game news service served over Teletext that inspired a lot of this site. I recommend doing a deep dive.

4. How can I listen to these stations outside of the site?

Well, I'm glad you asked, fictional English child presumably accessing this Teletext site. You'll need the direct stream links, which I'm providing below, and then you can use a media player on your desktop that can handle streams (such as my beloved WinAmp or VLC Media Player), an app on your phone (the aforementioned VLC Media Player, Hi-Fi Cast, or my hands-down favorite internet radio app XiiaLive), or a physical internet radio (try the Ocean Digital WR-23F). Media players usually have a way to Open Stream or URL under the File menu, and then it's off the the races.

5. I'm now as obsessed as you are with internet radio! How can I find more?

I keep a spreadsheet of my personal favorite stations and direct links to them, so reach out to me if you want over 100 choices I've curated, but in the meantime check out my Music & Radio bookmarks page for a place to start.

If you want to listen to the streams directly, you'll need the links:
