Movies, TV Shows, & Video Games - For all your multimedia needs!
The SMB Movie Archive - To those who regularly speak about the Super Mario Bros. Movie on Twitter, this may be a familiar place for you. Seriously, whoever runs this site will, without fail, tell you to Trust The Fungus if you so much as breathe the words "Super Mario Bros.: The Movie". That tendency aside, the site itself is a treasure trove of fascinating tidbits and effort to collect every possible piece of info there is about this little video game movie that couldn't. It's genuinely so cool that it managed to find and piece together a Director's Cut version that ended up being a ton of fun. Worth the deep dive.
The Swan Archives - Much like the above, this is a fascinating archive of absolutely everything to do with one film, in this case Brian de Palma's Phantom Of The Paradise. It's a really interesting site, half-written in-character from the perspective of the villain of the film (or at least a devoted fan) and half-written with a rather curmudgeonly tone. Extremely fun and extremely interesting.
The Mushroom Kingdom - For my money the greatest Mario website ever created. I cannot believe it's still running and being updated. Deezer is incredible, and this site is absolutely packed full of screenshots, info, minutiae, and relics of the past. It's so charming, a site that really has been around for decades and you can feel that on every page. Probably my most-visited non-social-media website of all time.
Kirby's Rainbow Resort - Back in the day there was a webhost that spun off of GameSpy called ClassicGaming.Net. TMK was part of it, David Wonn's Unique Video Game Glitches was part of it, and so was this website. Apparently this place went dormant for a long time, but someone dug right in deep and brought it into the 21st century and now it runs like a dream. This was one of my haunts in middle school, and I still love it. So much Kirby! So many weird turn-of-the-millennium rumors and hoaxes! Photoshops! Mailbags! Pictures and descriptions of Kirby's copy abilities! What a great place.
Mega Man Battle Network 2 Let's Play by MissEchelon - What may be my favorite LP ever made. MMBN2 is already one of my favorite games, but she spices it up with hilarious pictures drawn in MS Paint and a delightful love of Mr. Progs. Honestly the perfect example of a screenshot LP, which is an art that should never die.
[mode] Let's Play by SuperGreatFriend - Another one of my favorite LPs ever made. Yes, it's on YouTube, but that's because the SomethingAwful threads I'd prefer to post links to are in various states of archival and I doubt most people reading this have an SA account and access to the archives. The game is fascinating, an unreleased FMV game with a wholly unique method of interacting with the characters where instead of words you portray emotions by clicking on a bar. Intriguing stuff.
Jeff Green - Stranger Media - The creator of [mode], Jeff Green, is just as eccentric as his game would have you believe. His website is, too. You can buy a copy of [mode] from him here, but I would absolutely recommend checking out his other projects. His public access show, Cowboy Who, is also, well, as unique as you'd hope, and he has archived it all. I can't tell if this guy is a visionary or just off his rocker, but I enjoy it nonetheless.
The Fighters Generation - Much like TMK and Kirby's Rainbow Resort, this is a page that is deliciously old school, still updated, entirely rigid in its tone and dedication to the old ways of web design, and is singularly devoted to a single subject, in this case fighting games. It's an incredible resource of official art, sprites, lore, and character info for everything from Last Bronx to King of Fighters XV. The news is all current, too. Again, it's very old school and very brusque, and I can't say I agree with many of TFG Webmaster's opinions, but my God the tenacity of this site is such a testament to those who created the best of the web.
Hardcore Gaming 101 - I admit, I would've been more enthusiastic about linking to this site if it still looked like it did when I would spend hours on it during overnight shifts on the radio. Still, it's a really cool resource for tons of deep dives into entire game series'. This is such a comprehensive resource of gaming reviews and history and opinions with tons of multimedia to enjoy, including comparisons of different ports of various games all done in good old text and image format. Again, they recently went to a full blog-based CMS, and I think that sadly it lost a lot of the charm for me as a result and it feels harder to just pick an article and dive in, but the info is still great and the pieces worth reading. I discovered so many fascinating games here, especially thanks to their articles on SNK and Neo Geo, and the D series.
Little Miss Kinamoto - A Cardcaptor Sakura fansite that is utterly loaded with charm and information straight out of the era of Rockman.EXE Online. I adore that there are anime screencaps, translations of Sakura's incantations, profiles on CLAMP members, a truly impressive selection of merchandise in the webmistress's collection, and my favorite section, "Learn Japanese" which provides helpful audio clips from the Cardcaptor Sakura anime so you can understand various phrases straight from your favorite anime. I'm not really sure why the banner seems to be dog-themed, but it's a mystery for the ages.
Super Page 58: A Digitiser Archive - Oh my god, I love this. Basically, back in the 90s in England and into the early 00s there was a service called Teletext (or Ceefax on BBC). You could, on your television, view text and images in what was basically an early digital magazine or guide. It was the coolest thing ever to me as a kid. One of the things that ran on Teletext was a "magazine" called Digitiser, a daily roundup of gaming news, jokes, reviews, and letters, headed by two very boorish troublemakers with a flair for the artistic. This is attempting to be the most complete archive of the magazine's work, with images reconstructed from old video signals and photos as well as entire histories and articles and interviews detailing the story behind the "publication". It's brilliant stuff and I wouldn't have known about it if Mandy hadn't found this site on the Fighters Megamix Wikipedia page. It sure made me nostalgic for Teletext, at least.
Panzer Dragoon Legacy & The Panzer Dragoon Saga Oasis - Mandy loves Panzer Dragoon. During their periods of researching it they stumbled upon these two awesome sites. Panzer Dragoon Legacy is a massive database of in-game text, official art, fanart, and lore for every single game in the franchise, and Panzer Dragoon Saga Oasis is specifically devoted to that specific game. They're both a bit tricky to navigate but they are absolute treasure troves of information about the series just waiting to be uncovered. Unbvelievably awesome, and Legacy even has Discord groups and similar ways to connect with fellow fans.
Mighty Jack's MST3K Review - Another great site Mandy found, a wildly comprehensive review site of every single piece of Mystery Science Theater 3000 media out there. It's incredible how deep this dives. I like the highlights on specific quotes and riffs as well as judgment of the movies themselves. It's really a ton of fun.
The Fighting Game Glossary by Infil - One of the absolute coolest websites I've ever seen! If you ever wanted to know about ANY fighting game term, this is the place to go. It has definitions for everything from Shoto to Sex Kick along with examples, videos, pictures, and linked glossary terms. It's so well-designed, so simple, so effective. I adore this site. I wish the code or CMS was open-source - this is such a useful tool and exactly what I was looking for for other projects once upon a time.
Mega Man Legends Station - Another incredible gaming resource, this time for one of my own personal favorite series'. Mega Man Legends! I found this while looking for screenshots of Nino Island which has always been shockingly difficult to do and what I found was an up-to-date treasure trove of absolutely everything you could think of related to MML. Art, trivia, info, all of it collected in a super clean and easy-to-navigate site that is beautiful and snappy with an amazing old-school-meets-new-school design philosophy. It really shines and evokes the beautiful atmosphere of the games themselves. Amazing.
